Originally started off as a cartoonish looking sketch. Then I went in and 'painted' the skin and it looked really weird with huge anime style eyes 
so I pretty much just decided to make it look like a realisic cartoon... or something like that 
Its supposed to be Toph from Avatar: The Last Airbender ... But if it wasn't for her headband thing Im not sure she would be that recognizable
